| I recognize that Roe vs. Wade decided most issues regarding abortion and it is not the place of the State Legislature to try to change it. Further, Justice Roberts has stated he will not rehear arguments on this issue. I am pro life, but recognize that abortion happens when women feel alone, violated, or otherwise unable to have a child. It is time as a culture to address the root cause of abortion rather than the abortion itself. That is how we can most effectively promote fewer abortions. | |||

| The budget is balanced every year, it should not be up to our state representatives to give ourselves a raise and additional money to use within the budget. Instead, we should be good stewards of what the state provides and look at programs that are redundant or no longer necessary to reduce waste. Further, we should examine programs such as CDOT that claim not to have money for roads but can build large buildings for themselves. There has to be a balance. | |||

| I would further support regulations that brought civility back to elections by reducing the amount of negativity and toxic politics that are often paid for my unknown third parties. Our voters don't want this toxic behavior in politics and we should support it ending. CO has a mail in ballot, requiring photo ID at the polls would be a hoop that actually would require several hoops for voters to jump through. We verify identity in other ways. No matter what happens with redistricting, I believe there will always be loopholes for unscrupulous people to exert their will. | |||

| Like many Catholics, I believe all life is precious, with reports of guilty verdicts being overturned due to new evidence, I could't in good conscience promote capital punishment. The voters of CO chose to allow rec marijuana and it now up to our entire community to find ways for it to be used safely and kept out of the hands of children. Minor is a broad word, but there are most definitely situations where a minor acts like an adult with full awareness of the ramifications and should be treated as one. Our country has laws, we should follow them. | |||

| Private Sector regulations are often a hindrance for qualified applicants to participate in business in CO. This would need to be looked at on a case by case basis. I believe that people often need to recognize their Human Dignity to climb out their difficulties. Long term, I agree with drug testing, but not in the first 6 months to a year so that we can try to help citizens back on their feet. Our roads need to be fixed and for too long our elected officials have paid for many other things before this basic requirement for our state. | |||

| I believe that education in CO can be the best in the US, but this is not always a dollars and cents problem. As the Leader of Global Learn Day, I spend a lot of time with educators evaluating what works on a world wide scale. We are tying teachers hands behind their backs and not letting them really control instruction. France has the best education for kids in the world and spends less than the US per student. Their emphasis is on critical thinking skills by exposing students to philosophy. We need to let our teachers do this too. | |||

| Renewable energy is a part of our future, but it is not developed to the point to run our state now. Colorado has some of the toughest regulations in the nation for fracking and we should be aware of this and the economic downfall of consistently increasing regulations. | |||

| Our 2nd Amendment rights come with responsibilities. I support common sense legislation that includes collaboration between law enforcement and gun rights advocates. The gun violence our society finds itself dealing with isn't a product of the weapon but of the mental health of those wielding them, we need to address this. In a mass shooting, an individual is shot on average every 17 seconds. Even with a 90 second response time, that is too long for our children to be with an active shooter. I support trained, mentally health cleared individuals having access to guns to end active shooter situations. | |||

| The opioid epidemic needs to be fought not just in treatment facilities, but through education to head it off. We need to work with grassroots programs at the state to do this. Medicaid is a valuable option for many Coloradans, however, we can only expand funding if and where it is feasible to our state budget. In general, I am against mandating individuals purchase anything. As a Catholic, I believe that life is precious from conception to its natural end, however the voters of CO chose to legalize this and I respect their choice. | |||

Our society only works if we are willing to recognize that we do not all have to agree, but we all need to be respectful of each other. This is an education and learning process as we move past what social norms have been for centuries, but my hope would be that as a community we could recognize every individual's human dignity. | |||
